What to Put On
How well I remember the daunting task each fall and spring when it was time to go through the children’s clothes to see what would work in the new season. When our kids were very little, that task included wonderful bags of hand-me-downs. I wouldn’t be surprised if clothes sorting — and the multiple decisions that requires — is on your to-do list for this week.
Yesterday morning I went through a stack of winter I-think-I’ll-get-rid-of-these clothes of my own. You know the questions. Will I really wear this? Do I look okay in this? Is this in style anymore? I had already gone through this stack once. After my second round of decision making, I put two or three of items back in our closet. I am looking forward to distributing the much larger get-rid-of stack.
What we and our children will put on is a necessary task for us mamas. In Colossians God revealed exactly what He wants us to put on. It’s the perfect outfit for every occasion. It never gets too old, too worn, too big, or too small.
So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved,
put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience;
bearing with one another, and forgiving each other,
whoever has a complaint against anyone;
just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.
Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity
Colossians 3:12-14
