Ray and I drive one hour each way to visit our wonderful chiropractor (I’ll call him Dr. Randy Jones). In the several years that he has been helping us, I have come to appreciate the two ladies who run his office and to respect his whole family. One of his office ladies is his mother (I’ll call her Jane). Dr. Jones is the only child of Jane and her husband (I’ll call him Ted). Almost everything that I know about Dr. Jones’ family I have learned from Jane. You know how we mothers love to talk about our children and grandchildren.

When we were there yesterday, I asked Dr. Jones’ mother about Ted. They thought they were going to lose him to a serious illness a little over a year ago, but he is doing pretty well. Then I asked about her daughter-in-law. Jane said that her illness, which has left her in a wheelchair, is slowly taking its toll, but her attitude is very good. I asked if she is still able to homeschool her children. Jane said that she is able to do that with the help of Ted. Then she told me how smart Ted is. It’s his job to help with the homeschooling and Jane’s job to “spoil” the grandchildren.

Again I was blessed by learning more about this great family. Jane helps at the office. Ted helps with homeschooling. Dr. Jones has his hours arranged so that he is able to be at home a great deal. When he is in the office, he is helping many people–like Ray and me. His wife serves with a cheerful heart.

I told Jane today about our friend who is studying to be a chiropractor after being helped so much herself after a car accident. Jane said that the reason Dr. Jones entered the profession was because a chiropractor had profoundly helped his father many years ago. That chiropractor was in his 90s and would sometimes spend an hour and a half at a time helping Ted in his basement office.

My purpose isn’t to sing the praises of chiropractic, though I will say Dr. Jones has been a great help to Ray and me. My purpose instead is to sing the praises of God for His creation of families. What a blessing to know this homeschooling father and grandmother and to get a glimpse into how they and their family are saying yes to our Father.

For this is the message
which you have heard from the beginning,
that we should love one another.
1 John 3:11
