Live Online Events All Week! And You’re Invited!
It’s been a while since we have had a live online event. We’ve scheduled several over the next few days. The first one is tonight at 7:00 p.m. Central time. I’ll need to be tidying up today and trying to make sure I don’t embarrass myself tonight.
When I was a little girl, I had a subscription to Calling All Girls, a magazine for girls. I enjoyed — and greatly identified with — a feature entitled “Was My Face Red?” Are you like me? Do you do things sometimes that make you feel like a total idiot?
One morning several years ago, I was standing in front of the sink drying my hair and thinking about how I just couldn’t believe how short my hairdryer cord was. Appliance cords have not always been so short, you know. There was a time when manufacturers trusted us with cords. Not anymore! Now we must have really short ones on some appliances because we might do something totally idiotic and dangerous—not just idiotic like I did that morning.
As I stood there hardly able to dry my hair because the cord was so short, I thought about how I wanted to show the short cord to Ray and let him also be amazed at how short it was. I even thought about the fact that I had purchased two of these same hairdryers so that I wouldn’t get stuck with one that burned out just before I was going somewhere. I thought about how disappointed I was that I was going to have to suffer through another short cord after the hairdryer I was using that morning went belly up.
It was about this time that I had a sudden realization: the cord on my hairdryer was retractable. All I needed to do was pull it farther out. Boy, was my face red! I felt like a complete nincompoop. Maybe you have felt like a nincompoop, too . . . sometime . . . maybe once or twice . . . maybe fifteen years ago or something.
Maybe your children feel a bit like nincompoops, too, sometimes. Aren’t you glad you are there to let them know that they aren’t? Aren’t you glad you are there to laugh with them, because we are all a little nincompoopish sometimes!
Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.
For He Himself knows our frame;
He is mindful that we are but dust.
Psalm 103:13-14

I am the hostess for tonight’s event which is for four groups of parents—those who are thinking about homeschooling, those planning to start homeschooling in the fall, those who have been homeschooling for a while and are getting weary, and those who love homeschooling but who could use a little encouragement. Tuesday’s Event — June 7 at 2:00 p.m. — One Soldier’s Story
Our son, John Notgrass, is the host for Tuesday’s event. Wesley Notgrass (1915-2007) joined the United States Army in 1941 and served for four years, one month, and seven days in the United States and Europe during World War II.
Based on his grandfather’s recollections and wearing his grandfather’s uniform, John Notgrass steps into character to share Wesley’s life story in a first-person narrative, from growing up in the 1920s and 30s through his experiences during the war.

Wednesday’s Event — June 8 at 2:00 p.m. Central — Teaching Elementary with Notgrass History
Our daughter Mary Evelyn McCurdy is the hostess for Wednesday’s event. She will provide an overview of our curriculum for elementary students: Our Star-Spangled Story and Our 50 States.
