Light, Eyes, and Children
As I circled our yard taking pictures of the snowy morning several days ago, I searched for light.
Because the sun rises behind the hill behind our house, it shines on the higher elevations first, such as these hills on the other side of the river.
As the sun rises higher in the sky, it casts its light on lower and lower objects, such as the barn across the road.
Finally it reaches the vegetation close to the ground.
It is not just on a snow morning that our eyes search for light. I’m sure you have observed how even a very young child’s eyes are drawn to a smart phone screen or a television screen–all the more reason to be careful what their little eyes might see there. Light is a theme in the first chapters of the Gospel of John.
- Jesus was the Light of men (John 1:4).
- The Light shone in the darkness, but the darkness did not understand it (John 1:5).
- Men loved darkness rather than the Light because their deeds were evil (John 3:19).
- Evil people hate light (John 3:20).
- An evil person does not come to the Light because he is afraid that his deeds will be exposed (John 3:20).
- Contrarily, the person who practices truth does come to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God (John 3:21).
I worry (a lot) when children and teens spend time with their eyes drawn to the light of an electronic screen in a place where their parents’ eyes are unable to see. Be careful little mamas what light draws your children’s eyes.
But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,
That shines brighter and brighter until the full day.
Proverbs 4:18
AMEN.
Oh how I was thinking of this very concept just yesterday…..the light from monitors & screens that may lead to dark places IF not lovingly supervised.
Thank you for your daily wisdom and inspiration.
Blessings,

Thank you for your kind words, Vicki. Lovingly supervised–exactly!
Such beautiful photos, Charlene! If I could, I would frame and hang the one with the barn, along with the one of the river and hills right above it. You are blessed to have such gorgeous landscapes for your eyes to soak up!
Thank you so much, Betsy. I know we are blessed with these views and the credit all goes to God. When the real estate agent took us upstairs in this house for the first time, and I saw the view across the road where the barn and hills are, I knew I would love to live right here. It has been work to fix up this old house, but I am always grateful to be here.
