A Joyful Believer

A few months ago, the grandmother of a Homeschool Dramatic Society actor invited me to share some lessons at a special day for women at her church. It was such a wonderful day of encouragement for me, made especially joyful by the presence of our daughter Bethany and granddaughter Eva.

The women had planned the day around the theme, “Bind Us Together.” The lessons they asked me to share were entitled, “Bind Us Together,” and “Mold Our Lives.” In keeping with both themes, they gave each in attendance a cookbook called It’s Bound to Be Good and a beautiful bar of handmade soap in the shape of a heart.

These ladies absolutely doted on all of us who came. They began our day with a scrumptious hot breakfast served outdoors under a tent and ended the day’s activities with a delicious indoor lunch, served by their husbands and sons, all dressed in black aprons. The women had continued the day’s theme in the fellowship hall by decorating the tables with beautiful molded pottery.

This country church is bursting at the seams and they are talking of expanding. We met in their auditorium. At the front was a pretty display of pottery; one was filled with a beautiful bouquet of black-eyed Susans. I complimented the display during a presentation and told the ladies that I like pottery. You can imagine my surprise and excitement when just before lunch they handed me the pretty green package I had seen on the front pew. Inside was this beautiful hand-thrown pitcher.

The Pitcher 001

Our time in the auditorium began with three young girls standing before us and leading us in the song, “Bind Us Together.” I am guessing their ages to be between 9 and 15. All are homeschooled.

The girls on each end signed the song as they sang. The one in the center led us like a conductor would. They all sang beautifully and with joy.

The mother of the girl in the center told me that her daughter reads her Braille Bible each morning for an hour and tells her mother, “You feed your soul before you feed your body.”

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Matthew 5:8, NASB
