A Parking Lot Surprise

On Tuesday evening, I stopped by the grocery store to pick up a few things. I walked out into the dark parking lot with much more than a few — you know how that goes. I had a great parking spot near the door, so in a flash I closed the trunk and spotted the cart return. I walked back to the car on firm footing until I got almost past my next door parking lot neighbor. That’s when my left foot started to slide.

After a fearful half-second, I got my footing again  with a jerk. Even through my shoe, I suddenly sensed some sort of goo, so yicky feeling that I dreaded looking down. There under my left sole was a flat square of obviously-run-over squashed, yellow-brown banana! I had just slipped on a banana peel!

I was pretty sure that the 20-something nearby saw me, so I said, “I literally slipped on a banana peel.” She laughed and said, “Like a video game.”

I went inside the store to find an employee to clean it up so no one else would slip. I found the young man who had just bagged my groceries. He laughed, too. He told me that they don’t clean the parking lot, but that they have someone else do it at night. I suggested that he ought to do it anyway, since someone could slip. He followed me out and scooped up the peel with a plastic grocery bag.

So, now, in the span of four days, I have actually exited a theater in response to a fire alarm and slipped on a banana peel.

I’m planning to go to town today. I think I’ll stay clear of ladders. I’d hate to have a can of paint land open side up on my head!

Isn’t life a blast! A surprise a minute! Hope your homeschool day is full of laughs!

A joyful heart is good medicine,
But a broken spirit dries up the bones.
