A Sunday Morning in 1915

One reason that I think history is a crucial subject for children is that history teaches them that:

Things have not always been the way they are now.

When we learn that things haven’t always been the way they are now, we also learn that things can be different. History gives us perspective. Yes, things can be worse than they are now, but they also can be better.

On this Sunday morning, I am encouraged by what happened on another Sunday morning 105 years ago. On April 18, 1915, 1,316 men met in Lancaster, Ohio, for a men’s Bible class. Here’s their picture:

How can a young man keep his way pure?
By keeping it according to Your word.
With all my heart I have sought You;
Do not let me wander from Your commandments.
Your word I have treasured in my heart,
That I may not sin against You.
Blessed are You, O Lord;
Teach me Your statutes.
Psalm 119:9-12
