An Unlikely Homeschool Success Story

Last week a friend and I talked about some of her homeschooling experiences. I think her story will bless you.  I’ll call my friend Kimberly.

On the surface, it would seem that Kimberly was an unlikely homeschooling success. She has had a serious and ongoing health problem since she was in her mid-teens. Rather than making sure that she kept up with her education during her numerous surgeries and hospitalizations, her teachers simply passed her along. She received a high school diploma that she doesn’t believe she earned. Kimberly spent her homeschooling years feeling shortchanged in her own education.

The surgeries didn’t stop when Kimberly and her husband began raising a family. They made the brave decision to homeschool anyway after the first of their three sons finished kindergarten. After some of her surgeries, the only homeschooling Kimberly could accomplish was to have the boys bring her books so that she could read to them while lying in bed.

Kimberly is a woman of deep trust in Jesus. She was a devoted homeschooling mother and she finished that task well, even on the days that she could only accomplish two crucial tasks: praying for her boys and reading to them. Kimberly’s sons are excelling in their adult lives. Their paths have not been completely smooth at every step; but now, 12 years after the oldest one graduated, they are all doing extremely well.

I don’t know all of your particular challenges, but I do know our Father Who made Kimberly a success in spite of her daily challenges. I also know that He loves you, too.

He gives strength to the weary,
And to the one who lacks might He increases power.
Though youths grow weary and tired,
And vigorous young men stumble badly,
Yet those who wait for the Lord
Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary.
Isaiah 40:29-31
