Buds and Petals and Children

The first wildflowers are beginning to bloom in our little corner of Tennessee. I saw this pretty yellow one last week.

It reminds me of children. Each of these buds and blooms is on the same stem. They have all received basically the same nourishment from the sunshine overhead and from the moisture at their roots. Yet, some buds are tiny and closed. Some are larger but still waiting to open. Some petals have opened a little. Some are halfway there. Some are in full bloom.

Each bud and each petal is exactly where it is supposed to be. No one is asking why they aren’t all on the exact same timetable. No one is making any one bud or petal feel inferior because it is at a different stage from the rest.

In fact, one of the reasons I like this photo is that the buds and petals aren’t all alike.

Children don’t all bloom at the same time either. God made each of your children just right. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

God created man in His own image,
in the image of God He created him;
male and female He created them.
Genesis 1:27

  1. What a lovely observation! I love how your blog points to such simple yet profound truths found in everyday life. I also love that you are seeing (and sharing) blooming flowers already. Ontario is a few steps behind so not quite spring here yet. Thank you for faithfully encouraging us!
