Delight!

I have been enjoying a knit buffalo plaid dress that I found at a Christmas fair. I’ve been wearing it two or three times a week since I decided to dress festively every day in December. In this photo, I am holding a picture our three–year-old grandson gave me on my birthday.

I haven’t seen another woman wearing my buffalo plaid dress, but on a recent Wednesday evening, two little girls who are ages 4 and 7 were wearing matching Christmas dresses. They were exactly like mine—exactly!

After Ray and I stayed overnight in a hotel near Nashville last Saturday, we went to the breakfast bar early in order to get back to church by 9:00 a.m. I like to people-watch. On that early Sunday morning, I didn’t see many, if any, smiling faces at first. Then a young woman walked in with a smile on her face. When she came nearer, I saw what I half expected to see. Sure enough, she was holding the hand of a little girl. That little girl is what that smile was all about. The mama was enjoying who I assume was her first child.

To my delight, the little girl was wearing—you guessed it—a buffalo plaid dress just like mine.

I enjoyed watching that young family. The parents were taking such good care of their daughter. She was their delight.

I hope you are taking a much-needed break from homeschooling. As you delight in the gift of Jesus’ birth, I hope you have many opportunities to delight in your children.

Trust in the Lord and do good;
Live in the land and cultivate faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the Lord;
And He will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him, and He will do it.
He will bring out your righteousness as the light,
And your judgment as the noonday.
Psalm 37:3-6
