Don’t Miss It!
Things were looking up around our place yesterday. First, we saw one of those fun low-flying planes. I don’t know what you call them, but they fly so low that the people inside can see you wave at them.
Thinking about that fun blue plane reminds me of when we lived in Illinois and it wasn’t extremely unusual to see a hot air balloon floating by on a pretty day. Those vast open prairies were great for that. I have especially fond memories of the one that looked like a tomato. It belonged to Garcia’s, a local pizza restaurant.
Though we saw them often, it never became ho-hum. We never would have let a balloon pass by without pointing skyward and saying, “Everybody look!”
Later last night at about 8:30, Ray and I learned that the International Space Station was going to be visible in our sky for four whole minutes, starting at 8:53. That gave us 23 minutes to eat and get outside. We don’t usually eat that late. It’s just that one thing after another happened last night and there we were, just sitting down. Of course, we weren’t going to miss it, not with Bob and Doug in there.
It was worth it! There it was going all the way across the sky above our heads. It was so exciting.
Mother described me as a little girl who was afraid she would miss something. Yep. She was right.
When I was writing this, Ray and I tried to remember what restaurant the tomato-shaped balloon was advertising. Pizza? Italian? We couldn’t remember, so I looked it up. To my surprise, I read an article that said that Garcia’s tomato was the first special-shaped balloon ever licensed in America. That’s special. I’m so glad I didn’t miss it!
Let’s keep our eyes and our hearts open today, ready to take in everything that is too precious to miss.

I have been to a few hot air balloon festivals and I never tire of looking at those amazing giant balloons. Which I could see the space station too!
