Every Newborn Child

Becoming a family legally is pretty easy. Marriage licenses and birth certificates aren’t that hard to come by. Living as husband and wife and parenting children — those are a different matter.

Your days are filled with getting meals on the table and handling sibling rivalry and wiping runny noses and making and keeping peace with your husband and training your child’s heart, soul, and mind. You are doing those things:

Because every newborn child is valuable to God — so valuable that God gave His Son to give that child eternal life (John 3:16).

Because every newborn child deserves to grow up in the loving care of his very own mother and father who are married to each other (Genesis 2:24, 4:1).

Because every newborn child learns when he sits and when he walks and when he lies down and when he rises up — and God has called parents to be responsible for what he is learning (Deuteronomy 11:19).

Because what every newborn child learns while he grows up will be in him for the rest of his life — whether that learning is godly or worldly (Proverbs 22:6).

Because every newborn child will someday stand before Jesus and hear whether he has lived the life of a goat or a sheep (Matthew 25:32).

Because groups with a variety of agendas that are vastly different from God’s will want to decide what every newborn child learns because they know that children soak up what they hear and see and touch (1 Peter 4:3-5).

Because Satan roams about trying to devour every newborn child (1 Peter 5:8).

You have decided that part of your devoted parenting will include teaching your children at home. We both know that it isn’t the only possible way to be a devoted parent; but I can tell you this, if I was starting out fresh today with a newborn child, that is exactly what I would do.

For God so loved the world,
that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him shall not perish,
but have eternal life.
John 3:16

That certainly is a lot of love for every newborn child.
