Every Time
As I was standing at a cash register last week, I saw a flyer advertising an upcoming health seminar. At the top in a cutesy font were these words:
I like to think of that idea in a more positive way. How about this?
Every time you eat or drink,
you are either feeding the cells God made for you
or making them work too hard
to process something God never intended for food.
As I’ve thought about the message on the flyer, I have realized that it can be applied not only to the body but to the heart, mind, and soul, too. Let’s try this:
Every time you see or hear,
you are either feeding sin or fighting it.
Or, how about this one?
I had not mentioned the flyer to Ray until last night when I read this post to him. He said that he read this verse yesterday morning:
He who walks with wise men will be wise,
But the companion of fools will suffer harm.
Proverbs 13:20
When he read that verse, he was getting our oil changed. Just afterward, he noticed the “insipid morning talk show” (I’m quoting Ray) on the TV in the waiting room. He thought: “That’s foolishness. If that’s what people feed their minds on, that’s how they’re going to see the world and that’s what’s going to come out of their mouths and lives.”
The same goes for our children. I’m thankful that you are paying attention.
