For-ev-er

I hope you are kind to yourself when you talk to yourself. I hope you say things like, “Nice job!” and “Way to go!” and “At least I gave it a try!” instead of “I am such a klutz!” or  “I can’t believe I did that AGAIN!” or “I can’t do anything right!”

Keeping a positive attitude and saying positive words — to ourselves and to others — is a struggle sometimes. The work to preserve and maintain our old house has continued this fall. Just yesterday I had to repent and apologize for letting Ray know in no uncertain terms how aggravated I was while trying to communicate with a contractor. I could have said it much nicer than I did.

I was thinking the other day about something in my recent experience and said to myself that it took “for-ev-er.” Then, I stopped and realized how very precious the word forever is.

God has offered the whole world the opportunity to live with Him forever.

I pray that Ray and I and our children and their spouses and their children and their spouses and every generation from Ray and me forward will serve God with their whole lives now and will live with God and each other forever.

I long to be with loved ones who are already experiencing their forever.

I once heard about a speaker who pointed out that one of the problems of living on earth is that we feel as if we have no time to do this or that, but that one of the beauties of heaven is that there is no time. Imagine a place where we don’t have to hurry to finish anything because there are no time constraints. Imagine an existence where there are no limits on fellowship with those we love because we are in a state of forever.

One of the opportunities we mamas have is the opportunity to prepare our children for forever. One of the opportunities we mamas have as human beings is the opportunity to become God’s child through Jesus Christ and to live for Him and then with Him forever.

On earth we sometimes balk at things taking “for-ev-er” to complete. In heaven we will not balk at “for-ev-er” but will instead bask in the gift of forever. I, for one, plan to start right now and treat that word with the colossal amazement and feelings of gratitude that it deserves.

Surely goodness and lovingkindness
will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
Psalm 23:6

  1. Beautiful and so timely for this last day of 2016, (I am catching up on my emails and reading), as I think forward to 2017 and what I pray this year to be and to mean. Thank you.
