Happy Birthday, Mary Evelyn!

Forty years ago today, Ray and I drove up the long driveway to the home of Doug and Cora Beal Shields to leave our four-year-old son John and our two-year-old daughter Bethany in the able care of our precious friend, Cora Beal. Then Ray hurried me to the hospital where I gave birth to our youngest child, Mary Evelyn, named Mary for the mother of Jesus and Evelyn for my mother.

Happy 40th Birthday, Mary Evelyn.

Here are Mary Evelyn and her mama forty years later in the Crosby family living room on the set of Blessed Assurance on Friday, September 15, 2023.

And congratulations, Honey, on five amazing, well-written, well-directed, well-attended, Homeschool Dramatic Society performances of Blessed Assurance: The Story of Fanny Crosby. Thank you for the pleasure of being your assistant  director for the 24th time.

Proverbs 31 describes our Mary Evelyn very well.

She looks well to the ways of her household,
And does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children rise up and bless her;
Her husband also, and he praises her, saying:
“Many daughters have done nobly,
But you excel them all.”
Proverbs 31:27-29

  1. Ongoing congratulations on your birthday. Lovely to read of how you celebrated (mule-wagon, how cool!). Also lovey to search back and see this post and the pictures. As always, beautiful to read your words, as well as the texts you chose to weave into your words (or vice versa!).
