I know a little boy . . .

I know a little boy who is gifted in many ways.

Drawing from Life, from “Illustrated London News,” March 26, 1870, engraved by William Hollidge. Courtesy Smithsonian Institution, Gift of Donato Esposito, 2015.

Give him some paints and a canvas and be ready to marvel at how his hand recreates what he sees with his observing eyes.

Give him some tools, wood scraps, paint, and time and prepare to be amazed at the model he creates.

Give him a defective mechanical toy you’ve tried in vain to repair and watch him figure out the problem and make it work as well as it did when it was brand new.

Walk into a room with sadness in your heart and be comforted by his silent look and hug that show you he noticed.

This little guy is still struggling to read like he and his mama long for him to do. For now God’s gifts in his life are not particularly academic, but, oh, how you can see the stamp of God’s image in his young life.

God created man in His own image,
in the image of God He created him;
male and female He created them.
Genesis 1:27

I will give thanks to You,
for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.
Psalm 139:14
