Laughing, Joking, and Whistling with Dot and Preston

When I thought about what to write for this morning, I thought about how much we all need a good laugh! I thought about my Aunt Dot. When I picture her in my mind’s eye, I see a big smile with her face all lit up. She has the cutest little chuckle — and I love how she says my name. It is like music to my ears. She is the one who picked the name of her first niece, Eva Charlene, while she was still a teenager — Eva for my mama Evelyn and Charlene for my daddy Charles. I cherish it.

Here are Dot, Preston, and I about a year later. I think they were still engaged.

Over the 4th of July weekend, I was thinking about Dot’s husband, my Uncle Preston, and his whistle. When I was a little girl, Preston was the whistler in the family.  I do admire a good whistler. They brighten the places where they are.

Preston is a joke-teller, too. When we visit with Dot and Preston, we can count on Preston for a good joke.

Dot has sent me two hilarious email forwards during the pandemic. I read every word and then I usually pick out the very best ones and read them to Ray, calling loudly from my office to his, “Hey, Ray! Listen to these that Dot sent me . . . .”

So, now I’ll say, “Hey, Mamas! Listen to this one that Dot sent me . . . .”

I stayed up all night to see where the sun went . . .

. . . and then it dawned on me.

I don’t know what’s going to dawn on you or me today, but I do hope you get a chance for a great big hearty laugh!

Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.
Psalm 100:1
