Little Eyes Are Watching

Ray and I spent last week in the breathtaking Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. On Saturday we followed an easy trail to Cataract Falls.

During our walk we had some opportunities to take photos of whole families who were enjoying the trail together, and some offers to take photos of us together, including this one . . .

. . . and this one.

When we reached Cataract Falls, we sat down on the bench and peacefully watched the water flow, while children climbed on the rocks and parents took photos of their families.

I noticed a mother taking pictures of her and her husband’s only child, a cute little boy about four years old. When I offered to take their photo all together, she beamed and was so grateful. When I handed her her phone, she smiled sweetly and asked, “Can I show you a picture?” This is what she showed me, . . .

. . . saying “I thought you looked so sweet.” You can imagine our surprise and our delight. I gave her my phone number and she texted it to me right away.

We never know what stranger is watching us, but we do know some little—and not quite so little— people who are watching us all the time—those in our families.

I am awed by Paul’s words in Philippians 3, when he tells them to follow his example. What a heavy responsibility! We don’t have to tell our children to do that. They do it automatically. That’s a heavy responsibility, too. Thank you for taking it seriously.

Brethren, join in following my example,
and observe those who walk
according to the pattern you have in us.
Philippians 3:17

Praise God for giving us the perfect example to follow.

Have this attitude in yourselves
which was also in Christ Jesus,
who, although He existed in the form of God,
did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,
but emptied Himself,
taking the form of a bond-servant,
and being made in the likeness of men.
Philippians 2:5-7
