Looking Lovely

Last night I came into our living room to find two of our granddaughters looking lovely in two of my long formal gowns from days gone by. “We’re pretending that we get dressed up fancy and put on makeup when our husbands come home from work,” one of them said.

Soon they were both waltzing with imaginary partners. “Dancing with your husbands?” I asked. They were.

When your days are filled with parenting and homeschooling responsibilities, it is sometimes easy to give your husband the dregs—you know, what is left over after you’ve given to everyone else all day. I believe there was a nugget of wisdom in what our granddaughters were pretending. Okay, maybe a formal is too much for every day, but it would be a fun special surprise sometime. And paying attention to how we look—even if it is a few quick strokes with a hairbrush—is a gift to our husbands.

He who finds a wife finds a good thing
and obtains favor from the Lord.
