Loved and Lovable

I recently learned that two of the things that Fred Rogers (of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood) wanted children to know was that they were loved and that they were lovable. He was spot on. We all need to be loved. We also need other people to help us know that were are lovable.

David described God’s loving care of him this way:

He brought me forth also into a broad place;
He rescued me, because He delighted in me.

Psalm 18:19

How powerful it must have been for David to know that God delighted in him. How powerful it is for our children to know that we delight in them.

Loved and lovable are different. Love comes from the lover to the beloved. It is a gift. Love says something wonderful about the giver of love.

Lovable says something wonderful about the person being loved.

As wonderful as it is to know that our parents love us, it also wonderful to know that they see us as lovable. Letting your children know, feel, and see that they are lovable is a powerful gift you can give them today.

. . .  encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children . . . .

Titus 2:4

  1. This is great wisdom! I’ve always focused on the loved and didn’t think about the lovable. I can’t wait to see how this will make a difference with my son (along with the Scripture!).
    Thank you so much for sharing this.
