Plant, Water, Pray, Trust

Click, click, click go the keys under my fingers as I struggle forward to meet my writing deadlines. When I got ready to start my workday yesterday, I set a timer for an hour. When the timer went off, I got up from my desk and climbed the stairs or took a five-minute walk—anything to get me out of my chair and doing something active before heading back to my desk to click, click, click some more.

On one of my five-minute walks, I peered over the side of the porch and saw the beautiful curved leaves of the hostas coming up.

I don’t remember the exact year that I planted them, but my guess is 15 years ago or so. I thought about you when I saw them. Every year I enjoy the fruit of that labor from many years ago.

I am proud of you for what you are planting in the hearts, souls, and minds of your children. Keep planting, watering, praying, and trusting God to make things grow.

I planted, Apollos watered,
but God was causing the growth.
So then neither the one who plants
nor the one who waters is anything,
but God who causes the growth.
Now the one who plants and the one who waters are one;
but each will receive his own reward
according to his own labor.
For we are God’s fellow workers;
you are God’s field, God’s building.
1 Corinthians 3:6-9
