Remembering Affirms the Worth of Others

While playing with blocks and a dollhouse with one of our grandchildren yesterday, Ray called my attention to his creation of Notty and Little sitting on a porch. Here we are — complete with my trademark footstool. It comes from being short, I guess. You will rarely find me in a relaxed sitting position without a footstool.

That little combination of plastic toys made me feel loved. It felt good to be thought of. It was sweet of Ray to remember my stool.

Every time we remember someone and let that person know that we remember them, we are affirming his or her worth. Jesus loves us so much that He died for us. God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to do that. God wants us to affirm the worth of others, too—our children, our husbands, our brothers and sisters in Christ, our friends, and everyone we meet.

Since you have purified your souls
in obedience to the truth
for a sincere love of the brothers and sisters,
fervently love one another from the heart,
for you have been born again
not of seed which is perishable, but imperishable,
that is, through the living and enduring word of God.
1 Peter 1:22-23
