Simple Times With People We Love

Last night was wonderful. After a long and wonderful day (which I hope to tell you about later this week), Ray and I drove to meet our friends who were camping nearby. We marveled at the scenery, . . .

. . . and crunched acorns beneath our feet.

Garth built a campfire at the campsite. We four sat at the picnic table, eating Terry’s cornbread and her campfire stew from an old recipe from an elderly friend of hers. Terry’s recipes often have a connection to her mother or to one of the elderly friends Terry knew in childhood or as a newlywed.

After supper Terry and I warmed cider, washed up the dishes, and peeled and sliced apples. We joined our husbands outside where we sipped the cider, dipped the apple slices in caramel sauce, and roasted marshmallows. Mine were those just-like-I-like-’em toasted ones, golden brown and so softened that they slid down my roasting stick. Yum. Just right. We laughed, told stories, and dodged the smoke. Ray and I even sang some old song parodies he wrote when we were newlyweds (Ray’s the song parody writing king!).

Simple times with people we love. Wow, that’s nice. As a homeschooling mama, you get to do that every day. Enjoy!

Every good thing given
and every perfect gift is from above,
coming down from the Father of lights,
with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
James 1:17
