Taking God Up On His Offer
While Ray and I were visiting with a new acquaintance recently, he told us about a woman he knew. Her story pulled at our heartstrings. He described this lady, who lived to be 104, as blind and deaf in her later years. We felt sad for her.
He talked about how cut off she was from people. Then, he began to provide more detail. He said that she was able to hear well enough to talk a little bit on the phone.
Then he said, “She wouldn’t wear hearing aids.”
How very, very sad to have had the possibility of connecting with others, but not doing so because of a decision not to use something that could have made a great difference in her life.
I wonder what joys we are missing because we have decided that something is embarrassing or perhaps too much trouble.
I also wonder how many blessings we are missing because we haven’t asked for them.
I would be heartbroken if I learned that one of our children or grandchildren needed something that I could provide but that he or she had never asked me. Jesus, Who came to do His Father’s will, assured us that we can ask. When a sadness or a problem comes into our lives this year, let’s do what Jesus told us to do. Let’s ask. Then, let’s honor Him by acting on His answer.
“Ask, and it will be given to you;
seek, and you will find;
knock, and it will be opened to you.Â
For everyone who asks receives,
and he who seeks finds,
and to him who knocks it will be opened.”
Matthew 7:7-8
