The Childhood of Jesus in Art
On Wednesday we talked about the men who composed “Silent Night” and about people around the world singing the carol for the last two hundred years. Artists have also honored Jesus. Perhaps today you would like to show your children how a few artists have illustrated Jesus as a child.
After hearing the happy news from angels, shepherds came to see Jesus as He lay in a manger.

Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the temple to present Him to the Lord and offer a sacrifice. The righteous Simeon and Anna were grateful to God for the blessing of seeing Him there.

Wise men from the East followed the star and came to worship Jesus.

When Jesus was twelve years old, Mary and Joseph found him talking with the elders at the temple in Jerusalem.

The Bible describes the remainder of Jesus’ childhood in this way:

And He went down with them
and came to Nazareth,
and He continued in subjection to them;
and His mother treasured all these things in her heart.
And Jesus kept increasing
in wisdom and stature,
and in favor with God and men.
Luke 2:51-52
