The Gift of Being a Mama

Like you, I am weary of hearing about the so-called burden of having babies. I wanted each of my babies so desperately, and I know that you feel the same way. As I listened to an online program recently about issues surrounding pregnancy, I thought. “I need to write a book for teens about the joy of having children.” If you only believed the news, you would think nothing worse could happen to a woman than she get pregnant.

Of course, there are very difficult circumstances sometimes. Sometimes those are completely out of our control. Sometimes the difficult circumstances are a result of bad and often immoral decisions. I have compassion for everyone in difficult circumstances, whether out of their control or as a result of bad decisions.

You and I both know women who want a baby so desperately and have never been able to become pregnant and give birth to a precious child. I praise God for giving me the gift of being a mama. He was so kind to give me that great privilege.

Children are a blessing. Like you, I love our children (and for me our grandchildren, too) so much. It breaks my heart to hear so much in our society about the burden of pregnancy. What could be more precious for a woman to do than to have and care for babies? To rear children to be godly adults? This is definitely a place where we must not conform to the world.

One of the beautiful outcomes of the modern homeschooling movement is the celebration of being mothers.

Last Friday I got a bad burn on my wrist. It looks pretty awful, but I was comforted greatly yesterday morning when I sent a picture to my doctor. He had looked at it in person on Tuesday, and he thought that the way it looks in the photo is fine. Following doctor’s orders, I’ve been applying a prescription cream to my burn. I keep it covered with gauze most of the time. Yesterday I noticed a claim on my box of gauze that reflects exactly how I feel about motherhood. The company claims that their gauze gives flexible protection:

so you don’t miss a moment

That’s me. I don’t want to miss a moment. Thank you for relishing the moments with your children and showing the world what a blessing it is to be a woman and have the beautiful opportunity to be a mama.

Whenever a woman is in labor she has pain,
because her hour has come;
but when she gives birth to the child,
she no longer remembers the anguish
because of the joy that a child
has been born into the world.
John 16:21

You may notice a new look for Daily Encouragement. We had some technical issues last weekend and had to make some changes. We decided to play around with a new look, too, but the content hasn’t changed. Thank you for reading. It means a great deal to me.
