We All Need God

First, let me thank you again for your precious prayers for Ray and me during this long health journey for Ray. I am very grateful to report that he got a good report from his radiation oncologist yesterday. Praise God! His blood test on Monday showed that the radiation worked well. The doctor told him to come back in three months for a repeat of the same test in hopes that Ray’s PSA will be even lower. (For those of you who understand those numbers, it is now .14. The doctor is hoping for an undetectable number in three months).

The ice and snow in our area caused us to have an unusual trip. Imagine heading to a Tuesday appointment two days early. With ice and snow still around and Monday morning temperatures predicted in the 20s, we decided to head west toward Nashville on Sunday afternoon for Ray’s 7:30 a.m. blood test. We stayed in Lebanon, Tennessee, on Sunday night and then got up early to go to the Vanderbilt facility in Lebanon the next morning. It was one of those beautiful and brisk mornings that make you feel simply joyful to be alive.

Avoiding the slick ice as we make the trek to the lab.

The blood test took about fifteen minutes. Then we were free until Ray’s doctor appointment on Tuesday morning. We went out for breakfast and then headed to nearby Mt. Juliet, where we played for most of the rest of the day before spending Monday night there.

During one of our short jaunts from place to place, I noticed a news story on my phone. The story was about a young woman accused of having several thousand dollars worth of stolen Stanley stainless steel cups in her car. Ray and I probably seem like dinosaurs when I say this; but before I saw this article, we knew nothing about the Stanley cup craze that began on TikTok during the pandemic. According to one story I read, it is centered in the “Gen Z/millennial girl culture.”

Ray’s immediate reaction was: People need God.

As much fun as it has been for many girls to have what is to them a precious Stanley cup, it will one day gather dust. And never will it fill their inner longings that can only ever be filled by God.

We needed your prayers for God to bless Ray and He did.

Here is Ray after our celebration lunch, a stop for groceries at Aldi,
and the long drive home with him at the wheel.

We all need God every day. Thank you for sharing God with your children.

I’m not saying it is wrong to buy our children things that are special to them. Ray and I certainly did that, and we continue to do so for our grandchildren. However, it is tragic when anyone tries to substitute objects for what only God can give.

And my God will supply all your needs
according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19

  1. You are not the only one who only recently learned about the Stanley cups. (Me too!) I asked my sons, and though they were familiar with it, they had no idea why people were so crazy about them. You’re right, people need God.
