When the People Stopped and Watched What God Was Doing

God creates one beautiful moment after another all over the earth. The sun rises. The sun sets. Waves crash. Turtles hatch. Lambs nurse. Clouds soar.

So many marvelous things are happening all around us that too often we don’t stop to notice, but yesterday many people stopped everything and watched as God sent the moon He made in front of the sun He made.

Friends and members of our family who did not live in the path of totality traveled many miles to see and experience the fleeting wonder of it all.

It is usually Ray’s and my style to do the same, but after being gone from home 18 nights in March for pleasure and for family needs, we decided to stay home this time. We still had a fun eclipse experience.

It wasn’t totality, but we enjoyed Jackson County’s 93%.

Though clouds had been predicted all day here, when the moon passed between us and the sun, the sky was blue, the landscape outside our door darkened a bit, . . .

. . . birds chirped, and a cold wind blew. We saw the eclipse perfectly through our protective glasses. Because:

He made the moon for the seasons;
The sun knows the place of its setting.
Psalm 104:19

Every day you have the opportunity to share God’s wonders with your children, including the wonder that God sent His Son to save them. All who become His children can look forward to the day when there will be no need for the sun or the moon. As John wrote in Revelation:

I saw no temple in it,
for the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.
And the city has no need of the sun
or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it,
and its lamp is the Lamb.
The nations will walk by its light,
and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it.
In the daytime (for there will be no night there)
its gates will never be closed;
and they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it;
and nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying,
shall ever come into it,
but only those whose names are written
in the Lamb’s book of life.
Revelation 21:22-27
