Who Intimidates You?
God said that He created us in His image, and we believe it. We believe that each of us really is precious in His sight. Still, we sometimes find it hard to trust fully and deeply in our hearts that we are equal to other people.
I recently had the opportunity to visit with a young woman with whom I was once acquainted but had not seen in many years. I’ll call her Lisa. Lisa is the same age as one of our daughters. Lisa and our daughter were both teenagers when our paths used to cross often. Another young woman, who was also a teenager back then, came up in the conversation. I’ll call the second young woman Kimberly. Lisa said that she and Kimberly were friends when Kimberly still lived locally but that after Kimberly moved away, the friendship ended. Lisa said that after the move, Kimberly was in “another league.”
Kimberly’s family became highly successful financially after they moved to their new location, so I understand Kimberly’s teenage feelings.
I confess that over my lifetime I have found many women intimidating. I am guessing that many of you have experienced that too. I am also guessing that those of you who have had or now have teenage daughters have watched them experience this.
I’m sure that Lisa knows that God’s Word makes it clear that none of us is really in another league. God made each of us in His image. Jesus died for each of us.
If only we would look up to God all the time, instead of looking sideways — or up or down — at the people around us.
By this the love of God was revealed in us,
that God has sent His only Son into the world
so that we may live through Him.
In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us
and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
