Capturing the Moment

I recently wrote about the lyrics that popped into Ray’s head while he was out in the cold finishing up his to-do list. He was glad this his chores would “soon be o’er.”

We had a pretty little snow on Saturday morning. I hurried outside to gather snow for snow cream and put it in the freezer for later that day.

At the bottom of the page, I’ll share the recipe I found for maple snow cream. It was scrumptious.*

A little later I called our daughter to see if the kids were playing outside in the snow. They were, so Ray and I drove to their house to watch. When we got there, big flakes floated down on all of us. It was so pretty. The children were having such a good time. We were, too.

After we got home, our daughter texted to let us know that the children and their daddy had built a snowman. She thought we might want to see it before it melted. The snow was melting fast, so we hurried back to the car to see it before it was gone.

This time it was my turn for a hymn lyrics moment. “Time is filled with swift transition,” I said to Ray.

Our snowy Saturday morning was one of those times when we knew we had only a short time to enjoy a beautiful blessing. By 11:00 a.m., the evidence of a snowy morning was almost gone, except for that big, hard-packed, melting snowman in our grandchildren’s snowless backyard. It was an easy time to remember that “time is filled with swift transition.” We knew we had to capture the moment.

So then, be careful how you walk,
not as unwise people but as wise,
making the most of your time, because the days are evil.
Ephesians 5:15-16

Hold to God’s Unchanging Hand
Jennie Bain Wilson

Time is filled with swift transition.
Naught of earth unmoved can stand.
Build your hopes on things eternal.
Hold to God’s unchanging hand.

Refrain:
Hold to his hand, to God’s unchanging hand.
Hold to his hand, to God’s unchanging hand.
Build your hopes on things eternal.
Hold to God’s unchanging hand.

Trust in him who will not leave you.
Whatsoever years may bring.
If by earthly friends forsaken,
Still more closely to him cling. [Refrain]

When your journey is completed,
If to God you have been true,
Fair and bright the home in Glory
Your enraptured soul will view. [Refrain]

Praise God that throughout fast transitions and slow ones, we can always “hold to God’s unchanging hand.”

Do not fear, for I am with you;
Do not be afraid, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, I will also help you,
I will also uphold you with My righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10

*Maple Snow Cream

Mix 8-10 cups of snow with 1/2 cup maple syrup, 1 cup cream, 1 teaspoon vanilla. The recipe said that you should eat it all when you make it because it doesn’t freeze well — so we did!
