As I stood in front of a display of 50%-off jewelry supplies at Hobby Lobby recently, I heard a little boy voice say, “Excuse me.”

I turned and saw the little six- or seven-year-old fellow for the first time. He was nowhere close enough to be bothering me at all.

His dad and I were both surprised at his words; and when his dad chuckled, the little boy said, “I was just using my manners.”

Aren’t little children amazing! Their thinking process is so very different from ours. One of our jobs as mamas is to pay attention and respect their little childish ways, while gently training them for the time when they will do away with childish things — and we miss those childish ways so very much . . .

I used to speak like a child,
think like a child,
reason like a child;
when I became a man,
I did away with childish things.
1 Corinthians 13:11
