Autumn is the season for migrating if you are a caribou living in Alaska.

Migration is something that caribou do together. For the migrating caribou, being a copycat helps them to survive.

In this photo, 27 caribou swim across the Noatak River.

Sometimes being a copycat is a good thing for human beings. Sometimes it is a very bad idea.

One of our granddaughters recently told me one of her memories. She began by mentioning what church sounds like after the last Amen and then demonstrated sounds of indistinguishable chatter. She said that when she was little she wanted to be part of that so she would make sounds that weren’t really words, but that sounded like the chatter she heard from the congregation.

I love that our granddaughter wanted to be like those sweet people. However, that conversation made me think about how important it is for parents to provide good companions for their children. Children are like us adults. They very often copy what they see.

We need to make sure that who and what surrounds our children is what God wants them to copy.

One who walks with wise people will be wise,
But a companion of fools will suffer harm.
Proverbs 13:20
