Dressed in White

On Friday evening we gathered for a white ball in Boucherville. I never did figure out any other significance of everyone wearing white other than it being very special. This is what the invitation said (with punctuation and capitalization copied exactly): “All the population is invited to a great celebration, to which the participants are invited, DRESSED IN WHITE.” So, we did.

The young married couple who portrayed Pierre and his wife Jeanne came to the ball. We had enjoyed seeing them with their four young children at the park earlier that day. “Jeanne” had not been in costume that morning. “Pierre” explained to me that they couldn’t find a babysitter. It turned out great in my opinion because I enjoyed seeing the children for the first time and loved watching them come over to him in the midst of his official duties at the various sites around the park and hug their daddy’s legs!

We got to have a sweet conversation with the two of them as they were leaving the ball. He teaches history and she is a psychologist who works with school-aged children. He told us that she was the best in Quebec. It was fun to share our mutual interest in teaching history to children. Like us, he believes it is very important.

With the exception of “Pierre and Jeanne,” one other character, and a handful of people who wore a black skirt or pants with their white tops, everyone was dressed in white. The tables where we ate dinner were white. The chairs were white. It was a beautiful evening.

And our own president Sue Ellen won a door prize — a copy of the book about the history of Boucherville, created especially for this anniversary.

White clothing is special to our Father in heaven, too.

Six days later, Jesus took with Him
Peter and James and John,
and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves.
And He was transfigured before them;
and His garments became radiant and exceedingly white,
as no launderer on earth can whiten them.
Mark 9:2-3

He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments;
and I will not erase his name from the book of life,
and I will confess his name before My Father
and before His angels.
Revelation 3:5
