I Am Pleased with You!
It’s birthday time in our family! Between May 28 and July 30, we have the birthdays of nine precious people! What a blessing it is to celebrate these who are precious to me. We are celebrating folks from one to 67. It is pure joy. I love it.
A birthday is a day to celebrate one unique person created in the image of God, a person who came into the world on a certain day at a certain time in a certain place. It is a day to say, “You are my daughter (or son or husband or son-in-law or daughter-in-law or granddaughter or grandson or mother or father). I love you. I’m thankful that you were born. I’m especially glad you were born into our family.”
A birthday is a great time to say those things, but the wise mama finds many times to say them. Don’t we all long to hear the words God spoke to Jesus at His baptism:
“You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.”
Mark 1:11
And again at His transfiguration:
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them,
behold, a voice out of the cloud said,
“This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased;
listen to Him!”
Matthew 17:5
We all ache to hear those words from God — and from all of the people who are closest to us. As you know, our children long to hear them, too.
Pleasant words are a honeycomb,
Sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
