We long to be perfect mamas, perfect wives, perfect grandmothers, perfect daughters. God and His Son are the perfect examples for us of the perfect parent and the perfect child.

In Zephaniah 3:13, God speaks of the “remnant of Israel.” In verse 17, He gives them this sweet promise:

The Lord your God is in your midst,
A victorious warrior.
He will exult over you with joy,
He will be quiet in His love,
He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.
Zephaniah 3:17

Following God’s example in this verse, we can say to our child:

  • My child, I am with you. You can count on me.
  • I will fight for you.
  • You fill me with such joy that my heart overflows.
  • I love you in tender, quiet ways.
  • I rejoice that you are my child. Hear me tell the world, “Hey, world. Look at this wonderful person. I get to be his/her mama!

Every child deserves that kind of love from their parents. God’s love and promises teach us how to love our children in the same powerful way that He loves us.

We love, because He first loved us.
1 John 4:19
