Men at Work
God was the first human resources manager. One of the first things He did after creating Adam was to give him a job to do.
Then the Lord God took the man
and put him into the garden of Eden
to cultivate it and keep it.
Genesis 2:15
Homeschooling mamas and daddies have the opportunity to train their children to work. I believe it is one of the most important lessons that children need. God’s Word has many lessons about work. AÂ quick search reveals that the word work is mentioned more than 300Â times in the Bible and that doesn’t even count works, worker, workman, etc.
The first worker was God Himself.
By the seventh day God completed His work which He had done,
and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.
Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it,
because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
Genesis 2:2 -3
As you know, I like to take pictures of very many things. One of my photography fascinations is men at work. I’m collecting pictures to make a book of them for our grandchildren.
Some of the folks who study such things believe that American families and the economy would be better off if more men chose to be employed. With that in mind, I think it would be good for my grandchildren to see a variety of things that men do. Since we used to see diamond-shaped signs that read “Men at Work” when I was a little girl, I’ve decided on that for the title.
These photos illustrate men at work, along with verses that tell us some of the things God thinks about work.
Poor is he who works with a negligent hand,
But the hand of the diligent makes rich.
Proverbs 10:4
The hand of the diligent will rule,
But the slack hand will be put to forced labor.
Proverbs 12:24
The soul of the slugrard craves and gets nothing,
But the soul of the diligent is made fat.
Proverbs 13:4
. . . for the people had a mind to work.
Nehemiah 4:6b
A worker’s appetite works for him,
For his hunger urges him on.
Proverbs 16:26
You make him to rule over the works of Your hands;
You have put all things under his feet . . .
Psalm 8:6
Homeschooling mamas and daddies also have the opportunity to train their children in the right attitude toward work.
Whatever you do, do your work heartily,
as for the Lord rather than for men,
knowing that from the Lord
you will receive the reward of the inheritance.
It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.
Colossians 3:23-24
What a wonderful idea!! My 12 year old daughter enjoys photography. I will share this with her and I pray that it will inspire her to complete a similar work to display her passions.
