Please teach me, Grandma!

Today I am telling you a story about one child in one class in one school. I’m certainly not suggesting that the story is the norm, but it does give you a reason to be thankful for your opportunity to teach your children at home.

A grandmother I know recently told me a sad story. Her 5th grade granddaughter — I’ll call her Emma — is in school. One of Emma’s teachers is responsible for teaching history and English, but she isn’t doing that! Each time the children have their history and English class, the teacher tells them just to play on their computers. What a waste of precious childhood.

That’s the sad part of the story.

Here is the happier part.

Emma wants to learn, so she asked her grandmother please to homeschool her for history and English!

I know you have days when you think you are not doing enough, days when you wonder if your children would learn more if they were in school. The next time you wonder, remember Emma’s yearning and be thankful you have the wonderful opportunity to know exactly what your children are doing all day.

Now, here’s the happiest part.

Emma’s grandmother has said, “Yes.” Way to go, Grandma! And way to go, you! Thank you for homeschooling your children.

For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you,
which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois
and your mother Eunice,
and I am sure that it is in you as well.
2 Timothy 1:5
