Scriptures and Words of Faith

On Sunday afternoon Ray and I arrived in Barbourville, Kentucky, hungry. Our two unplanned stops at state parks had made us later than we had hoped. Mexican restaurants usually have fast service so we chose 2 Amigos in a strip mall.

Ray dropped me off with an umbrella while he parked. First I and soon Ray was surprised at the huge restaurant going far back behind the narrow strip mall front. It was packed.

I always enjoy Mexican restaurants with pretty tables with scenes from Mexico under a shiny finish. I also enjoy the wooden chairs painted in bright colors with adobe houses and macaws and such on the backs. 2 Amigos had that decor but what I saw immediately when I walked in were the scriptures and words of faith throughout the restaurant.

On one wall was a giant mural of Jesus and John the Baptist in the Jordan River after his baptism.

I read these words on the back of a restaurant worker’s shirt:

I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me.

On another shirt, I read:

Jesus loves you.

I even saw a giant “I ♥ New York” style . . .

. . . on the T-shirt of a grown man who was a customer.

As I walked around taking photos while we waited for our quesadillas, I found a collection of thank-yous taped to the wall.

  • A great big thank you! We are so blessed for your help financially.
  • You really helped us achieve our goals this year.
  • Thank you for your support. – Kentucky Harvest Southeast Empty Bowls Project
  • Thank you for all you do for our hometown.

Ray’s daddy used to say, “Never pass up an opportunity to say ‘Thank you’ or to go to the bathroom.” So, thank you, 2 Amigos, for a being a shining light.

Let your light shine before men in such a way
that they may see your good works,
and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 5:16
