Swimming Against the Flow
“You shall not follow the masses in doing evil.” Thus our loving Father taught His children in Exodus 23:2. Parents have taught their children that lesson for generations.
Sometimes it’s easier for us parents to see the application of this teaching in the lives of our children, and especially our teenagers, than in ourselves. Truth is: adults are really good at following the masses, too.
It is also easier to see the foolishness in following the masses in what is obviously evil than to see the foolishness of following them in evil that is not so obvious.
Every so often (probably every day) we should stop and think about our choices to be sure that we are not being like this line of turtles . . .
. . . but are actually willing to be like this little guy when God calls us in a different direction than where those other turtles are going.
And do not be conformed to this world,
but be transformed by the renewing of your mind,
so that you may prove what the will of God is,
that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans 12:2
