“Take Care of Yourself!”

“Take care of yourself,” our daughter said, as we hung up yesterday afternoon. “Take care of yourself,” Ray said, as he and Mother left for church last night. Like bunches of folks around our neck of the woods, I have a cold. I know it’s catching because Ray had it last week when we were in North Carolina. Our team member Donna and I came down with it last Friday — almost at the same hour! Yep, it’s catching.

It’s just a cold. Still, I like for people to tell me to take care of myself. It says, “I love you.” It says, “You matter to me.” It says, “I care what happens to you.”

After a very busy time, Jesus told His disciples:

“Come away by yourselves to a secluded place
and rest a while.”
Mark 6:31

Jesus Himself made time for rest:

. . . Jacob’s well was there.
So Jesus, being wearied from His journey,
was sitting thus by the well.
John 4:6

Many of you have several weeks of homeschooling behind you already this year. This is not to say that you are a failure if you don’t! One of the many, many joys of homeschooling is being able to make your own schedule to fit your family’s needs. However, weeks of homeschooling behind you or not, I’d be surprised if you aren’t at least a wee bit weary and maybe a whole lot weary.

Yesterday morning Ray called me into the kitchen to see the light shining on the trees across the field. In a snap (no pun intended), I headed outside for an early morning photo shoot. I thought of you when I saw this in the garden.

Keep hanging on! And take care of yourself, okay?

Remember Jesus’ precious promise:

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden,
and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28

  1. Perfect advise. I am not an ‘it’s all about me’ type of person, but I know I do need to spend more time on myself in some ways. That’s actually been doctor’s orders. Thanks for the reminder to stop and rest. If we, as Moms, are not caring for ourselves, we could end up in a heap of trouble.
