The Woman in the Mirror

It happened again yesterday: one of our friends lamented that his mother-in-law watches a television news channel all day long. I think this is a common daily time filler for the elderly. Whew! Wouldn’t that make you feel as if — as we used to say a few decades ago — the country is going to pot!

I confess to feeling that way myself sometimes, like the other day when I noticed a ridiculous (and very dark) program on the television in our hotel breakfast room. If you ever feel this way yourself (and I would be surprised if you don’t), I have a perfect solution for you.

Look in the mirror. That woman staring back at you is doing something about the situations in the world that worry her. She is training the next generation. She is making a difference every day. Her powerful impact will continue for generations. I am proud of that woman staring back at you in the mirror.

We live in a society where heroes and heroines have gone out of style. It’s too bad that people who feel that way don’t get to meet more homeschooling parents. Ray and I just spent the weekend with thousands of homeschooling parents at the homeschool convention in Cincinnati. We left very encouraged.

You are brave. You are innovative. You are dedicated. You are resourceful. You are committed. You are devoted.

Therefore you are making a powerful impact.

I loved seeing several of you readers this past weekend. I felt like David did when he wrote Psalm 23: my cup overflowed! Thank you for stopping by our booth and saying hello. From the depth of my heart, I thank you. It means very much to me to look into your eyes and hear your voices.

Paul told the Christians in Corinth:

 Therefore, my beloved brethren,
be steadfast, immovable,
always abounding in the work of the Lord,
knowing that your toil
is not in vain in the Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:58
