The Result Down the Road of What You Are Doing Today

At Ashland City Elementary School, I learned by heart this verse that continues to challenge me today:

Let the words of my mouth,
and the meditation of my heart,
be acceptable in thy sight,
O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.
Psalm 19:14 King James Version

I also learned these verses that continue to comfort me today:

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for thou art with me;
thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
Psalm 23 King James Version

I am grateful that my public school teachers led our classes in morning devotionals. I wonder if they ever imagined that what they were teaching would continue to bless my life decades after I left their classes and their daily influence. Could they have imagined that helping me memorize Psalm 23 would sustain me during this hard time for my mother?

What you are doing with your children today is even more powerful because their lessons are coming from their very own loving mama. As I have shared with you before:

My son, observe the commandment of your father
And do not forsake the teaching of your mother;
Bind them continually on your heart;
Tie them around your neck.
When you walk about, they will guide you;
When you sleep, they will watch over you;
And when you awake, they will talk to you.
Proverbs 6:20-22

Happy Valentine’s Day. I love you all.
