This Is the Day

Yesterday one of our grandchildren was counting the years until she is ten. I must have said things like that when I was growing up because one of Mother’s sayings quickly came to mind. She used to say, “You’re wishing your life away.”

Later in the day, I wondered if I had been doing that this last year as I looked forward to the day when COVID is history.

No matter what our age, it’s tempting to long for a day in the future rather than cherish the one we are living. It’s easy to look forward to the day when I don’t have to deal with diapers anymore or when I can leave the kids at home for a date with my husband or when my husband retires.

Lord, help us to cherish today and cherish the stages of each of our precious ones.

This is the day which the Lord has made;
Let’s rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24
