When a Mama Is a Busy Mama

More than a decade ago I decided to try to take the word busy out of my vocabulary. I haven’t actually done that, but I do think now before I use it. I have mixed feelings about being busy. I don’t like busyness if busyness means a life full of meaningless tasks that aren’t worthy of my most important goals. On the other hand, I certainly want to be busy doing the things God wants me to be doing.

The other morning I decided that I wasn’t too busy to go outside to capture some of its beauty with my camera. Looking back on those photos last night, I realized anew that God is busy taking care of so many things. He had time that morning to make a mist rise above the river.

Foggy Morning

The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease,
For His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22-23

He had time to paint the lawn with frost, . . .

Frosty Ground

He gives snow like wool;
He scatters the frost like ashes.
Psalm 147:16

To shine the morning sun on the distant fog, . . . .

Sunrise Reflected on the Fog

 Yours is the day,
Yours also is the night;
You have prepared the light and the sun.
Psalm 74:16

 To send the moon to its place.

Distant Moon

When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained;
What is man that You take thought of him,
And the son of man that You care for him?
Psalm 8:3

If you find yourself feeling busy, just stop for a minute (if you can find one) and think about all the important things you are doing and realize that God is busy, too. Sometimes busy can be a very good thing. Sometimes it simply means that God has given us precious people, given them needs, and given us what we need to meet those needs.

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable,
always abounding in the work of the Lord,
knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:58

  1. Thank you, Charlene. This has blessed my heart so this evening. It is very important that we discern what is good busy and what is not. You have reminded me to do so, and I am grateful. Your photos of God’s creation are breathtaking!
