When Our Family Became Homeschoolers

Back in 1990, Ray and I struggled month after month. We had an important decision to make. We wondered: “Should we homeschool? Are the problems we are seeing in public school bad enough that we should make this radical decision to bring our children home? What should we do?”

In today’s video, I tell how Ray and I went from being a mama and daddy with lots of questions about whether we should homeschool to the point four long years later when we actually became homeschoolers (to paraphrase a song we sing with kids at church) “deep down in our hearts.”

I hope this encourages you as you remember and recommit to the why that is deep down in your hearts and I hope you will share it with anyone you know who is wondering: “Should we homeschool?”

And because today is April Fool’s Day, let’s have some fun. See if you can be one of the first five mamas who finds the stink bug crawling on my shoulder! Send an email to charlene@notgrass.com. If you are one of the first five, we will be happy to send you a copy of my book, Daily Encouragement for Homeschooling Mothers. And now, here’s the story about the stink bug.

While I was busy talking in front of the camera, Titus our videographer was busy checking all the filming details and didn’t notice the stink bug that crawled on my dress for some time. When it finally crawled around to the back of my neck, I felt it and the video recording stopped in a hurry! It wasn’t until Titus watched it on his computer that he saw that it had been crawling on the fabric for a while! That’s why you see the blue chalkboard for so long on this video! By the time he was ready to put it all together, he was working from home and we couldn’t refilm it!

And now, for the video:

Whatever the educational choices we make for our children, I pray that every Christian parent will make the decisions necessary to say with Joshua:

As for me and my house,
we will serve the Lord.
Joshua 24:15
