We need Jesus.

On Saturday night Ray and I visited on the phone with our long-time friend who is an immigrant from Lebanon. He has been in America for 47 years. He has been a U.S. citizen for decades and is one of the most patriotic people we know.

Ray and I wanted to know how his loved ones in Beirut are doing after the explosion there. It was painful to hear. As always, though, our friend ended the conversation on a positive note with expressions of his Christian faith and with encouragement for Ray and me.

He said that people ask him what they can do to help people in Beirut. He tells them: “The first thing you can do is to be thankful you are in America.” He said that in America we see our problems and we fix them.

I was encouraged by this and I hope you are, too.

But the most important thing our friend said is, “We need Jesus.” He’s right.

Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying,
“I am the Light of the world;
he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness,
but will have the Light of life.”
John 8:12
