You are Making a Difference in the World

Ray and I were surrounded by fog when we went for an early morning walk on Sunday.

We stopped and examined a new vine we hadn’t noticed before.

Then we saw a thin yellow glow far across the pasture.

The sun was beginning to peek through the fog and beaming its light on that distant spot.

Very soon the yellow glow began to grow.

I don’t know if you can see the glow or not. It is the thin yellow line near the center of the grass “horizon” that is in front of the trees beyond the pasture.

God’s first words in Creation were:

Let there be light.
Genesis 1:3

Matthew teaches us that when Jesus left Nazareth and moved to Capernaum, it was to fulfill a prophecy in Isaiah:

The people who were sitting in darkness saw a great Light,
And those who were sitting in the land and shadow of death,
Upon them a Light dawned.
Matthew 4:16

Today millions of people are walking in fog. They are “sitting in the land and shadow of death.”

Jesus is counting on us to “dawn” on them. In the next chapter of Matthew, He said:

You are the light of the world.
A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;
 nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket,
but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
 Let your light shine before men
in such a way that they may see your good works,
and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16

You? Me? The light of the world? Yes. Jesus left us the job of being light in this present darkness.

You are training your children to be light, too. You are making a difference in the world. Wow! Your job is important.Thank you for doing it every day.

Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying,
“I am the Light of the world;
he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness,
but will have the Light of life.”
John 8:12
